Our recent interior design project for Mr. Talal at The Avenues Bahrain, Al Sultan Café, captures this philosophy perfectly. Specializing in authentic Syrian sweets, Al Sultan Café merges Oriental ambiance with modern elegance, creating a distinctive experience that reflects both the cultural heritage of its offerings and a sophisticated, contemporary dining atmosphere.
Project Overview Al Sultan Café is a new dining concept at The Avenues Bahrain, designed to offer customers a unique blend of traditional Middle Eastern flavors and contemporary comfort. Known for its authentic Syrian sweets, the café required an interior that reflects the rich history of Syrian culinary arts while appealing to the cosmopolitan clientele of The Avenues. Our approach centered on a tasteful fusion of Oriental decor and modern elements to create an inviting space where guests can enjoy high-quality Syrian desserts in a luxurious, memorable setting.
Key Design Elements
- Oriental and Modern Fusion Our main design objective was to create an atmosphere that complements the artisanal quality of Al Sultan Café’s Syrian sweets. We achieved this by blending traditional Oriental design—characterized by intricate patterns, warm colors, and decorative accents—with modern, minimalist furniture and clean lines. This fusion creates a balanced aesthetic that feels both luxurious and welcoming, appealing to a diverse audience.
- Inviting Seating Layout The café’s seating layout was designed to offer a range of experiences, from intimate nooks for small gatherings to more open, communal seating. This thoughtful arrangement caters to customers looking to enjoy a quiet coffee with sweets or a lively group celebration. We contrasted these details with polished wood and metal finishes for a modern twist that highlights the rich textures of the Oriental design.

Special Design Features
- Feature Wall with Damascus-inspired Tiles: A feature wall decorated with tiles inspired by Damascus patterns creates a stunning visual centerpiece. This wall is located near the main seating area and serves as a cultural touchpoint, connecting guests with the Syrian roots of the café’s menu.
- Beverage and Sweets Preparation Counter: The semi-open counter area is designed to allow guests to see the careful preparation of coffees, teas, and sweets, adding an interactive element that enhances the authenticity of the café experience.
- Oriental Archways and Dividers: Inspired by traditional Syrian architecture, we added ornate archways and dividers to subtly section off different seating areas. These elements enhance the café’s sense of privacy and intimacy, while preserving the Oriental aesthetic and flow of the space.
